John Paul II. centre for disabled children in Lokichar, Turkana, Kenya is an institution with unprecedented impact on lives of children it takes for. Social workers who are part of the centre regularly visit villages in all of Turkana seeking for physically disabled children and persuading their parents to send them to the centre. The children are given professional care and in many instances their lives are vastly improved through surgeries and treatements provided by the centre. Many of the children become fully able to take care of themselves, many start to walk after years spent locked away from the rest of the world. They go to regular schools and are learning to live independent lives.
